No more cables? "WiTricity"...

I'm not going to try and explain how it's done but it seems that wireless power, or "WiTricity" could be common place in the future, according to this Guardian article, eradicating the need for power cables and batteries. As someone who carries their laptop around nearly everywhere and works on the move, I'd see huge benefits from never having to take the power lead around with me, and relying on electronic hotspots instead.

However, there's no timescales given in the article for how long it might take for "WiTricity" to become mainstream, so I'm a little sceptical about this becoming reality any time soon.
